Belinda Martin

I have a background in forensic biology with a focus on trace DNA analysis using novel analytical approaches to obtain more genetic data from less starting material. My research includes the design and optimisation of PCR assays for Y-STR analysis and the genetic sequencing of various targets from human DNA samples that have undergone extreme conditions. As a part of FAME, I provide lab support for a variety of projects from a range of research groups specialising in extraction, PCR, sequencing, and qPCR modifications to facilitate project success. Most recently my personal research has involved characterising the microbiome of cave shelters in the Kimberley, home to incredible Indigenous rock art. I am also currently involved in monitoring shark habitation along the South Australian coast using genomic methods, and performing shark species identification for the South Australian Police force.
