Jing Teng

Jing Teng is a Master of Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) student at Flinders University. Supervised by Prof. Robert Edwards and Dr. Vijini Mallawaarachchi, her research project applies deep learning to transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images of bacteriophages, focusing on the automatic classification of phage morphotypes and on when transfer learning and domain-specific pretraining actually help on the small, expensively annotated datasets typical of virus imaging.

As part of this work she has curated the first public benchmark dataset for phage morphotype classification and systematically compared convolutional neural networks against a classical baseline under rigorous, reproducible evaluation.
